Dad. (poem)

taking the scenic route

bad jokes

excitement coming out as over-explaining

Patience.

Understanding.

Tolerance for my terrible twos.

reaching the tallest shelf

rerouting to the lost and found

fixing the things you can’t teach me

Coming all this way.

Believing in me when I chose to break

just because I couldn’t see.

a little baby carrier strapped to your chest

grown-up earmuffs over my tiny head

blowing away those fallen leaves

so they don’t smother the parking pavement.
